Why Web3 Smartphones Are the Next Big Thing in Mobile Technology

Smartphones are the most recent Web3 innovation, following in the footsteps of cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens, the metaverse, and many others.

These days, our smartphones are indispensable. It’s as if we can’t live without these little computers. Therefore, consumers must have easy access to goods and services related to blockchain technology through their mobile devices.

Blockchain technology is being integrated with smartphones by a consortium of Web3 companies and mobile phone manufacturers, including Polygon Network, Nothing, Solana Labs, HTC, and others.

This article introduces you to the new Web3.0 era by providing an overview of what it is and how it works before exploring the connection between Web3 mobile phones and web3.0 technology.

My name is Almira Lopez; I act like a CMO and think like a boss. I’m a Metaverse marketing strategist, and this is the best place for you to learn about Metaverse and how to market it all. So if that sounds good to you, you’re excited?

So, let’s get started!

An Easy Explanation of Web3

Web 3.0 is committed to a decentralized, peer-to-peer, or blockchain-based web ecosystem owned and built by its users. Decentralization, the watchword of Web 3.0, means that users will have full control over their data, including the ability to read and write it, and that large tech corporations will be unable to sell or alter it in any way.

What is a Web3 Phone?

The Web3 phone is the future because it makes private online communication as simple as offline communication. It does so without needing data to be monitored and traded by Internet giants. Entering the Web 3.0 era is impossible without a Web3 phone.

What Is the Relationship Between Web3 and Web3 Phone?

Even though 2014 is the first year of Web 3.0, we still need to enter Web 3.0 in 2023 fully. Because a completely decentralized network does not exist, but a partially decentralized network may have emerged in certain groups, the Web3 phone is the central vehicle for achieving this vision.

So, why do we need a Web3 phone? Why can’t we access Web3 on any old cell phone? According to projections made by the World Advertising Research Center (WARC), by 2025, 72.6% of all internet users, or about 3.7 billion people, will use smartphones to connect to the web. This is why mobile access is crucial to Web3’s success. You can count on it.

Web3 phones also offer their users access to Dapp (Decentralized APP). While it is possible to use some Dapps on older mobile devices, these applications are often “incompatible” with the underlying philosophy of those devices. Even though NFT APPs like Opensea are available on iPhones, Apple charges a 30% “Apple Tax’’ on all NFT transactions. The fundamental contradiction between the nature of Apple and traditional Android phones as “centralized institutions” and their almost exclusive focus on centralized APPs and companies necessitates the development of Web3 phones.

What can Web3 Phones do?

Web3’s central feature is its decentralized nature, and blockchain is its fundamental core. Thus, the primary distinction between a Web3 phone and a regular cell phone is its capacity to act as a blockchain node, thereby contributing to developing a Web3-based behavioral value internet and restoring user rights. Each user of this revolutionary phone will have a brand new, completely secret identity.

As an alternative to paying the 30% Apple tax and Google have on app sales, web3-focused phones will allow content creators and platforms to enable digital ownership rights to both organizations and users.

Apple and Google aren’t based on the idea of digital ownership because it requires digital items to be treated like physical ones.

The creator owns all the content, and you, the user, are simply renting it. Even though you may pay for a video on Amazon, you do not legally own it.

Therefore, neither Google nor Apple is eager to seriously challenge web3, as doing so would threaten their respective revenue streams.

Companies Already Launching Web3 Phones

Solana Saga

Newly formed Helium Mobile and Solana Mobile, a spinoff of blockchain firm Solana Labs, have formed a partnership to merge their respective nascent next-generation technologies.

In the United States, customers who purchase a new Solana Mobile Saga phone (the company’s flagship Android mobile phone for Web3) will be eligible for a free 30-day subscription to Helium mobile (including unlimited voice and text) that will allow them to make use of the Helium 5G network and other partnered 5G networks, such as T-Mobile’s.

In early 2023, when the Helium Mobile Network goes live, the phones should begin shipping.

How Helium Works

Helium is a wireless, decentralized network that connects low-power smart devices (miners) to the Internet for data transmission and reception. By acting as a wireless access point and data relay for the internet, the miners are rewarded with HNT tokens.

Helium Mobile, a coverage service based on Helium’s decentralized and distributed IoT and 5G networks, was recently launched by Nova Labs in collaboration with T-Mobile.

Users of Helium Mobile can connect to T-Mobile’s network and their own privately-built 5G networks via the MVNO. Helium’s network will augment rather than replace T-Mobile’s, unlike how most MVNOs operate.

As stated in a press release about the company’s partnership, the Helium Mobile network now has 6,300 active small cells, with 1,300 cells added across the U.S. in the last 30 days alone.

You can reserve a Saga phone now for just $100 down, which will go toward the phone’s total price of $1,000. The phones will reportedly be given top priority by the company so that developers can use them to test the Solana Mobile Stack and Saga. Helium Mobile memberships begin at $5 per month, providing access to the Helium network. The phones will work with all major U.S., Canadian, British, and European carriers.

Hotspot owners are compensated in MOBILE tokens, a cryptocurrency, each time a user connects to the 5G network. While the network is still young, users who volunteer information about coverage quality and Helium dead zones may receive cryptocurrency-based token rewards.

Metavertu

At a London event, Vertu unveiled its newest smartphone, the Metavertu, a “Web3 phone” that can function as its blockchain node and convert media files such as photos and videos into NFTs with the tap of a button.

The product’s intended audience is the wealthier segment of the population. All versions are powered by a Qualcomm SnapDragon 8 Gen 1 processor, featuring a ceramic body and Vertu’s trademark sapphire glass display. Standard features include a 6.67-inch, 2400 x 1080 AMOLED screen, a three-lens camera setup, and a 4,600 mAh battery.

METAVERTU, introduced by VERTU in 2022, is the first true Web3 phone. The ‘Metaspace’ in METAVERTU encrypts your data and prevents hackers from gaining access when you switch between web2 and web3. To further facilitate user experience, METAVERTU layers Web3 and Dapps in the Metaspace and employs a straightforward navigation system. This Web3 mobile phone provides sufficient privacy and security to explore blockchain technology, mining, NFT, etc.

With just a few taps, users can generate a wallet whose private keys are safe within the phone’s trusted execution environment (TEE) and then use that wallet to gain access to various dapps presented in an intuitive, Android-like interface.

A Vertu representative stated that VOS is one of these dapps because it allows the phone to function as a “ validator, a light node, and a light client” on the Ethereum blockchain. Vshot is another dapp that lets users mint NFTs from photos and videos with a single click.

Vtalk, a secure peer-to-peer IM app that “integrates decentralized social networking” like DAOs, is pre-installed on the phone.

Desire 22 Pro

Last month, HTC released the first “metaverse phone,” which caused quite a stir. It works with HTC’s virtual reality platform, called Viveverse. HTC also stated that the smartphone would include a crypto wallet for storing various NFTs and cryptocurrencies.

A 6.6-inch Full-HD+ (1080 x 2412 pixel) display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 20:9 aspect ratio can be found on the Desire 22 Pro. HTC claims that when paired with the Vive Flow headset, this massive screen will help deliver a truly immersive virtual reality (VR) experience. The smartphone has a huge chin and a 32-megapixel camera in a punch hole. A 64-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor are also included.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor powers the device. The device also includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space. The device is powered by a 4,520mAh battery that allows wireless and reverse charging. The HTC Desire 22 Pro has an IP67 rating, making it resistant to dust and water.

Nothing Phone (1)

The latest Nothing Phone (1) will use Polygon’s technology to make it easier to use dapps (decentralized applications on blockchain networks) and blockchain games and make instant payments over the Polygon network from a mobile device.

The device’s software consists of Nothing OS atop Android 12. The primary camera on the mobile will be 50 megapixels and a Sony IMX766 sensor. The Snapdragon 778G Plus processor from Qualcomm will be at the heart of the device. The release of the phone is scheduled for now.

Web3 is the way forward, and Web3 phones are integral to that.
